A Free OFX Animated Background Plugin Built From Your Own Images

Moving backgrounds usually mean building keyframes by hand or buying a pack of pre-made loops. The SyF Animated Background Pro is a free OFX animated background plugin for Vegas Pro that turns any image you already have into a moving layer. Load a pattern, a logo, a texture, or a transparent PNG, and set it scrolling over your clip in a few seconds.

Two Independent Image Layers

The plugin gives you a Background Image layer and a Foreground Image layer. Each has its own Enable checkbox and its own image, so you can use one layer or stack both. The background layer draws first, the foreground layer draws on top of it, and both sit over your clip. Where an image is transparent, your clip shows through.

Make It Move

Set a Direction in degrees and a Speed, and the image scrolls across the frame that way. Speed runs from -100 to +100, so a negative value runs the scroll backward. Both layers have their own direction and speed, so they can drift in different ways at the same time.

Tile It

Turn on Multiply and a single image repeats across the whole frame as a tiled pattern. Spacing sets the gap between copies, up to 2000 pixels. At a spacing of 0, the tiles meet with no visible seams, which makes patterns and textures scroll endlessly.

Shape and Soften It

• Scale: from tiny to ten times larger than the original, with 0 as the original size.
• Rotation: turn the image any angle from 0 to 360 degrees.
• Opacity: fade a layer in so it sits gently over your footage.
• Blur Strength: soften a layer from a light blur up to a heavy, dreamy one. It works well for out-of-focus backdrops.

Keeps Your Transparency

Images load with their transparency intact, so a logo or a cut-out PNG on a transparent background lays over your clip cleanly, without a box around it. It runs in 8-bit and 32-bit floating point projects.

GPU-Accelerated, With a Real Fallback Chain

The render tries an NVIDIA CUDA device first, falls back to OpenCL for any other GPU, and only drops to the CPU if neither is available. It stays fast on the widest range of machines, not just one brand of graphics card. One checkbox turns GPU acceleration off.

Run the installer.
(Note for Windows Users: As an indie developer, you may see a blue SmartScreen warning upon installation. Click “More Info” -> “Run Anyway” to install.)

Open Vegas Pro and navigate to the Video FX tab. Under the Scrapyard Films Plugins! group, you’ll see:
